At Ndhiwa Sub County Hospital in Ndhiwa, Dr. Nicodemus Odundo utilized Vuzix Smart Glasses in combination with the TeleVU GlassVU and TeleVU RemoteVU platforms to support and document a cesarean section procedure for future training purposes.
The patient was a 28-year-old female undergoing surgery due to two previous uterine scars resulting from cephalopelvic disproportion and current fetal distress. After being placed supine in the operating theatre, the abdomen was cleaned and draped, and a subumbilical midline incision was made.
The abdomen was opened in layers, where significant adhesions were encountered and carefully managed through adhesiolysis. A lower uterine segment incision was then performed, resulting in the delivery of a live infant with Apgar scores of 7 at one minute, 8 at five minutes, and 10 at ten minutes. The placenta was delivered, the uterus was closed in layers, and the abdomen was closed in layers.
The patient remained stable throughout the procedure and was transferred to the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU). The postoperative outcome was positive, with both mother and baby stable.
